Troubleshooting - No article need is shown or article need is wrong

Goal

This article helps you fix cases where no article need is shown or the article need is incorrect because material consumption is missing or wrong in a calculation. If material consumption is not calculated, material cost will be zero and there will be no basis for purchase when a calculation becomes an order.

Procedure

Step 1: Confirm the problem: no material consumption is shown

Open the relevant calculation for your products, quotations, or orders. Check the material consumption tab or section. If it is empty, continue with the checks below.

Warning
If the tab shows no material consumption, no material cost is created and there is no purchase basis when the calculation becomes an order.

After each fix below, save and recalculate to update material consumption and article needs.

Step 2: Check that material information is entered

Verify that a valid material is selected in the calculation (for example, the correct paper, board, or substrate). If material is missing, select the correct item and save.

Step 3: Enter the format (size)

Make sure the product or sheet format is filled in (width and height). If the format is missing, imposition and material use cannot be calculated.

Idea
If a work object is calculated with set-up material only, then only the set-up amount will be calculated until all required fields (like format) are complete.

Step 4: Enter the number of pages (or units)

Fill in the number of pages, leaves, or units used for the material calculation. If this value is missing, the system cannot calculate running material consumption.

Idea
With only set-up material defined, the calculation includes set-up consumption only. Enter the number of pages/units to enable full material use.

Step 5: Make sure the work object is present

Confirm that the correct work object is added to the calculation and linked to the material. If the work object is missing, add it and set the required inputs (format, pages, quantity).

Idea
If only a following work object with set-up material exists, the calculation will include the set-up amount only until all required objects and inputs are present.

Step 6: Validate imposition settings and margins

Open the imposition settings. Check that the selected imposition fits the product format and that margins are realistic. If the product does not fit due to wrong imposition or margins, material use cannot be calculated.

Warning
If imposition or margins are incorrect, no running material use is calculated. Only set-up materials may be included.

Step 7: Check custom sheet format

If you use a custom sheet format, verify that it is entered and correct. The system can set a default, but you can override it. A missing or wrong custom format prevents correct material use.

Warning
If the custom sheet format is missing or wrong, no running material use is calculated. Only set-up materials may be included.

Step 8: Resolve fiber direction conflicts

Compare product dimensions to the material fiber direction. If they are opposite and this is acceptable, set the switch “Wrong fiber direction allowed” to Yes. If it is not acceptable, adjust product dimensions or select a material with the correct fiber direction.

Warning
When fiber direction is blocked by settings, running material use is not calculated. Only set-up materials may be included.

Step 9: Correct product orientation vs. imposition

Check that the product orientation matches the selected imposition. If the orientation is incorrect, adjust the product rotation or choose an imposition that fits the product format.

Warning
If product orientation conflicts with the imposition, no running material use is calculated. Only set-up materials may be included.

Idea
After fixing the root cause, save and recalculate. Then verify that material consumption appears and that the article need is updated before you proceed with purchasing or converting to an order.
